ERA's BS8621 range provides an easy escape

The conflict between a secure British Standard accredited front door lock and fire safety recommendations has now been overcome thanks to ERA’s new Emergency Escape Range.

The new BS 8621:2004 standard mirrors the BS 3621:2004 but is for ‘escape locks’ classified as providing keyless egress at all times. This is essential to meet the requirements set out for ‘escape locks’ and applies when there is a requirement for an easy action method of opening an external door from the inside with no need for keys or similar devices for unlocking. It is especially relevant for entrance doors in multi-residential buildings and is widely specified as a requirement by architects.

Their new BS 8621:2004 Nightlatch offers all the enhanced security of the updated BS 3621:2004 standard but with a keyless lever on the inside of the door to ensure quick escape is possible in the event of a fire. It is available in a narrow 40mm size and a standard 60mm size in brass effect, satin chrome effect, polished chrome effect or satin nickel finish, and offers a deadlock facility to prevent intruders gaining access using a credit card.

The new BS 8621 standard also covers the new cylinder operated Mortice Lock range with Euro Thumbturn and Oval Thumbturn options available in a brass effect, satin and chrome effect finishes. These offer additional security through hardened steel drill plates, 20mm bolt throw and 4 hardened rollers in the bolt to resist hacksawing.
